Job Description

Travel Crane OperatorResponsible for controlling cranes or draglines to lift, move, position or place machinery, equipment, product and other large objects.Crane maintenanceDemonstrate understanding of crane capacity and safe lifting practicesDemonstrate understanding of product dunnage and stacking practicesKnowledge and maintenance of yard location systemMay include general supervision of material handlersConduct a pre-operational check on travel crane and perform cleaning/sanitization of cab dailyCommunicate with group leader and maintenance any concerns that may arise from inspection of Mi-JackOperate travel crane in a safe manner following all safety guidelines and rulesWork in conjunction with crew leader and ground men in safely setting product on trailer or in stacks on the yard.Assist with setting timbers on trailers or in stacks on the yard and rigging when neededMaintain travel crane in good clean condition and in operational mode and reporting maintenance needs when necessaryPerform preventive maintenance of the craneWork as part of a team assisting others as neededAdhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulationsHousekeeping as necessary to maintain work area, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly mannerThis job has no supervisory dutiesWorks on a teamHas limited supervision, must work independentlyKnowledge of crane guide hand signalsKnowledge of mark-up load stepsAble to read load-pick listUnderstanding of riggingBasic reading, writing, and math skillsAble to work on a teamUnderstanding of crane charts and safe lifting radiusAble to operate tablet to identify items to be loaded or offloadedAble to adapt to changes in work schedules, tasks, or processesValues and demonstrates safe working behaviorsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent preferredMonday-FridaySchedule varies with workload and locationUnscheduled overtime may be needed depending on production needsOutdoor, not shelteredNot climate controlled and may be exposed to changing weather and temperatureSafety glasses - Hearing protectionHard hat - Steel-toed shoesHigh-visibility vest - Gloves (various types)This position requires standing for long periods of time, lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and bending, repetitive motion with medium force, and an ability to frequently climb up to 15 feet above ground using stairs.This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
